Technical rider and stage plot

The same concert in two versions: a compact club set-up and a full festival set-up. Nothing on this page is a hard condition - tell us what the room already has and we build the evening around it.

The short version

Five things we actually need

If these are covered, the concert happens. Everything further down is detail that helps the sound, not a list of conditions - if a point cannot be met, say so early and we will find a way around it.

  • A PA that covers the room, and someone who knows how to run it.
  • A piano or a good stage piano, a jazz drum kit and a bass amp - see the backline list.
  • Two monitor mixes in a club, three on a festival stage.
  • A safe place to leave cases and change before the show.
  • Still water on stage.

Production snapshot

What the venue needs to know first

Rider v2.0 - August 2026

Club / small stage

The compact version. Four musicians, eight channels, two monitor mixes. Everything runs on the house PA and the house backline.

Line-up

Quartet as standard: alto sax, piano, bass, drums. Trio or duo works in a small room.

Set length

Two sets of 45 minutes with a break, or one continuous set of 70 minutes.

Soundcheck

45 minutes once the backline is in place. A line-check only is fine when time is short.

Sound and stage

8 channels, 2 monitor mixes, 4 x 3 m of stage. House PA and house engineer.

Festival / large stage

The full version. Quartet or quintet, twelve channels, three monitor mixes. Everything scales down without a problem if the changeover is tight.

Line-up

Quartet or quintet: alto sax, piano, bass, drums, plus a guest horn when booked.

Set length

One set of 60-75 minutes, or the slot length agreed with the programme.

Soundcheck

45-60 minutes, or a 20-minute line-check on a shared changeover stage.

Sound and stage

12 channels, 3 monitor mixes, 6 x 5 m of stage. Drum riser optional.

Backline

Who brings what

This one depends on where the concert is, not on the size of the room - inside Slovakia we drive and bring our own gear, abroad we fly with instruments only.

Slovakia

On Slovak dates we bring the drum kit and the bass rig ourselves. The venue only needs to cover the piano, power and monitoring - there is no equipment list to source.

Piano / keys

From the venue.

  • A tuned acoustic piano if the venue has one.
  • If not, tell us in advance and we bring a stage piano.
  • Bench or adjustable stool.

Drums

We bring our own.

  • Our drummer travels with his full kit, cymbals and hardware.
  • Only a clear 2 x 2 m area and a drum rug space are needed.
  • A house kit is welcome when load-in is difficult - just ask.

Bass

We bring our own.

  • Our bass player travels with his own bass and amp.
  • One power socket at the bass position.
  • A DI from our amp goes to the desk.

International

Outside Slovakia we fly with instruments only, so the drum kit and the bass rig have to be waiting on stage. This is the spec our drummer and bass player work from - house gear that comes close is fine.

Piano / keys

  • Tuned acoustic piano (A = 440 Hz), tuned on the day when the schedule allows.
  • A weighted stage piano - Nord, Yamaha CP or Roland RD, 88 keys - is an accepted alternative.
  • Bench or adjustable stool.

Drums

Maple kit preferred.

  • 18" bass drum
  • 14" snare drum
  • 12" rack tom
  • 14" floor tom
  • Coated heads on all drums - Remo Ambassador preferred
  • 3 boom cymbal stands
  • Hi-hat stand with clutch
  • Snare stand and kick pedal
  • Drum throne
  • Drum rug
  • Wedge beside the kit

Bass

  • Larger venues: 4x10 cabinet, or a 4x10 combo.
  • Smaller rooms: 1x12 or 2x10.
  • Amp preferably Aguilar or Gallien-Krueger.
  • DI out from the amp.
  • Wedge in front of the bass.
  • The player brings his own bass.

Details

Technical and hospitality notes

Written out so nobody has to guess. Read it as preferences, not demands.

Club / small stage

Monitoring

  • Two monitor mixes: one for the saxophone, one shared by the rhythm section.
  • Four wedges - saxophone, piano, bass and drums. The three rhythm wedges all run the same mix.
  • The drum wedge goes beside the kit, never in front of the cymbals.
  • The saxophone mix carries piano and bass, not the saxophone itself.

Sound and light

  • House engineer for the soundcheck and the concert.
  • Acoustic, low-volume mix - the band carries the room by itself.
  • Steady warm light on the band is enough. No show lighting required.

Stage

  • 4 x 3 m works comfortably; anything larger is a bonus.
  • One music stand per musician and a stool for the bass player if there is no wall to lean the bass on.
  • Cables tidied away from the front edge so the audience can sit close.

Hospitality

  • A room or a quiet corner to leave cases and change.
  • Still water on stage for each musician.
  • A meal or a small per diem if the schedule runs through dinner - either one is fine.

Around the show

  • Photos, biography and this rider are on radovantariska.com - use whatever you need.
  • Recording or streaming the concert is fine, just let us know beforehand.
  • Accommodation only when the drive home after the show would be too long.

Festival / large stage

Monitoring

  • Three monitor mixes: piano, saxophone, and one shared by drums and bass.
  • Four wedges - piano, saxophone, drums and bass. A fifth only with a guest horn.
  • The saxophone mix carries piano, bass and light drums - not the saxophone itself.
  • In-ear monitoring works well when the festival already provides the system.

Sound and light

  • Festival engineer at FOH and on monitors for the check and the concert.
  • Acoustic, dynamic mix - the band plays as an acoustic ensemble, so stage volume stays low.
  • Warm, steady front light on the soloist. No strobes or moving heads during ballads.

Stage

  • 6 x 5 m for the quartet, a little more when a guest horn is added.
  • Clear path from the wings to the centre microphone.
  • One music stand per musician and a chair without armrests for the guest.

Hospitality

  • Dressing room that can be locked, with power, a mirror and drinking water.
  • Still water on stage for each musician.
  • One warm meal per person on show day, or catering vouchers - whatever the festival normally does.

Around the show

  • Accreditation for the travel party: four people as standard, five with a guest horn.
  • Accommodation with breakfast when the concert ends late or the distance is long.
  • Press photos and biography are on the site. Recording and streaming by prior agreement.
